Unifying California Parcel Data Isn’t Easy. That’s Why We Did It.

Navigating California’s parcel data landscape is a daunting task. With 13 million parcels spread across 58 counties, it’s a lot of information to wrangle even before you start accounting for all the redrawn parcel boundaries, newly subdivided lots, ownership changes, and constantly shifting property characteristics. Add in the fact that each county has its own system for recording all that data, and you’ve got a headache waiting to happen.

That’s where ParcelQuest comes in. We love a good puzzle, and creating a simple-to-use but robust and (dare we say) unnervingly powerful statewide search is exactly the challenge that gets our blood pumping.

But as much as we love it, we actually don’t maintain an authoritative statewide parcel layer just for fun. We do it because it makes life better for anybody who ever needs to know anything about any piece of land anywhere in our beautiful state. And whenever we get to see that benefit first-hand, hearing from the people whose work and lives have been improved by ParcelQuest, we know it’s a job well done.

One organization we’ve worked with and had the pleasure of hearing from is LSA Associates, Inc., an environmental consulting firm with deep roots in California.

Since its founding in 1976, LSA has grown to nine locations and 180 employees, providing consulting services on projects large and small for private contractors, nonprofit conservationists, government entities, and others. Regardless of scope, every LSA project starts with a parcel, and having an accurate, trustworthy, standardized set of parcel data was a game-changer.
